The same applies when building a personal brand. Point out the elephant in the room and own what’s unique about you! Then take what you don’t like about your industry and change it by offering something better.
That’s how you define, level-up, and build an impactful personal brand. This is my approach when working with multimillion-dollar CEOs to side-hustle entrepreneurs.
Being authentic is everything. This can only be done by self-exploration, not by having a herd mentality.
Like most, becoming an entrepreneur was spawned from being laid off as an account rep of a phone company. It forced me to turn my side hustle, as a suit designer, into my 9 to 5. Despite rubbing elbows with celebrities and notable athletes, my moderate financial success wasn’t making the cut.
Years later, I decided to become an independent operator of a major mobile phone brand. It was a far cry from the fashion world, but nothings screams success like 7-figures. I built a business I admired and was an entrepreneur any mom would be proud of.
But as the years passed, maintaining my profit margins became more challenging and even daunting at times. To rebound from several different revenue policy changes, I found myself closing the income gap by creating additional services to offer my customers. It was like being in business with a pick pocket and not knowing when they were going to strike next. Unfortunately, when you’re an independent operator of a major brand, you never have the final say.
One year I signed a lease to open another one of “their” store locations, but thankfully my spirit led me in a completely different direction. It was time for me to stop making millions for others and start retaining more of that financial security for myself.
One of the best things about being an entrepreneur is how often I meet others who truly, and sometimes oddly enough, inspire me. Quite often, it’s easy to get caught up in the numbers, but I knew real success for me was also about living out my passions and helping others in the process.
I wanted to create a place where true creatives like myself could come to entice their imagination and channel their ideas into great conversations that would ultimately lead to collaborations. Most importantly, I knew Creatives needed a place where they could nurture and maintain relationships. Most entrepreneurs and brands fail to do this, but It’s essential for longevity. You can no longer go to a networking event and expect to grow your business. You must have an honest engagement and see how you can help others.
The Social’s Creative is like a social kaleidoscope, where you will see an array of creative backgrounds come together to craft something that continues to inspire others.
My goal is to open multiple locations around the US and abroad and be known for the place where Influence and creativity connect. And this time around it’s just as much about creativity and building a social network, as it is building a personal brand where I “do” have the final say.
